Candidates should be healthy individuals who do not have a life-threatening illness or medical conditions that can impair healing and are physically active on a regular basis with healthy food intake habits. If your skin is toned, firm and free of stretch marks with good muscle tone, then you can expect a very good result. This means that your skin is elastic enough to shrink back once the fatty tissue underneath has been removed. Good skin elasticity is important – too much loose skin or cellulite can result in an uneven or dimpled skin. If you also have excess skin, we recommend that you have the excess and loose skin removed surgically (e.g. tummy tuck or abdominoplasty, arm lift or brachioplasty), as liposuction alone will not give the desired results and may even worsen the condition.
You should be aware that liposuction is not a method of weight loss, but only a method of body contouring and therefore suitable for the removal of stubborn fat accumulated in specific areas. It is only appropriate when weight loss and exercise no longer help. Similarly, removing excess fat will not eliminate cellulite completely, as it is genetically determined, but it can improve its visibility. I do not recommend liposuction if you are planning to become pregnant in the near future. It is best to proceed with body contouring procedures after you have finished your pregnancies.
Traditional liposuction is a common method, but nowadays VASER technology is most commonly used in conjunction. Using VASER technology liquefies and softens the fat before it is suctioned out. This makes the technique more atraumatic to tissue and less likely to cause skin irregularities. The combination of both methods can also be used to define certain parts of the body, e.g. the transition between the back and the buttocks, the lines of the abdominal muscles (line 11), the narrow waist... During the same procedure and following the VASER liposuction I commonly use skin the tightening device called J plasma (Renuvion). The device releases helium gas and radiofrequency to create a precise stream of energy (plasma). This energy generates enough heat to contract the skin while, at the same time, excess helium gas cools the treatment area. This combination of energy contracts the tissues just under the skin, which tightens the skin and promotes collagen production leading to further skin tightening and increased elasticity.
The fat removed under vacuum is collected in a dedicated container. If you have a lack of volume on a specific part of your body, we can inject the collected fat in a procedure called fat grafting or fat transfer. Most of the time, the fat removed in liposuction is injected into the breasts, face, buttocks, hip dips or intimate area... This body reshaping procedure is also called "Liposculpting". This means that your body is reshaped by artistically suctioning and transferring fat. The result in a more feminine and harmonious body.
The type of anaesthesia depends on the amount of fat to be removed, your preference and your medical condition. The procedure takes between an hour and two and a half hours.
Let me summarize the steps of liposuction:
Here are some simple instructions to follow to make your recovery as smooth and painless as possible:
You can return to work after two weeks and you can start sport activities gradually after four to six weeks.
Some possible complications after liposuction surgery may include:
It is crucial to follow your plastic surgeon's post-operative care instructions diligently, wear compression garments as recommended, and attend follow-up appointments to monitor your recovery. If you experience any unusual symptoms or complications after liposuction surgery, contact me immediately for evaluation and appropriate management.
It may take several months for the swelling to fully dissipate. Your new body shape and contour will become apparent when the swelling and fluid retention commonly experienced following liposuction subside.
Although good results are expected from your procedure, there is no 100 % guarantee. In some situations, it may not be possible to achieve desired results with a single surgical procedure and another surgery may be necessary. It is also not possible to improve lax skin tone with liposuction.
The results of liposuction are long lasting, bearing in mind you maintain a stable weight and general fitness. As your body ages, it is natural to lose some firmness, but most of your improvement should be relatively permanent.
Before you make your decision, let me remind you again that in the long term, the key to transforming your body is a healthy diet and regular sports activity, which you should continue to do also after the procedure.
The decision to undergo such a procedure is a personal and a big step. I am sure you have some remaining questions, concerns or doubts. I am happy to discuss them with you during the consultation and together we will find the best solution for you. To schedule a consultation please click here.
